Our inaugural medical mission to Akim Oda and Akim Chia exceeded every expectation. The clinical numbers tell one story—but the human impact tells another.
**By the numbers: 200+ patients evaluated and treated
• Dozens of first-time neurological diagnoses
• Multiple stroke patients—an alarming number under age 50
• Children with untreated epilepsy finally receiving care
• 2 emergency hospitalizations for life-threatening conditions
• Medical supplies and equipment distributed
• Partnership established with the new Chia community health clinic

One young mother carried her 5-year-old daughter with uncontrolled seizures—scars visible from repeated falls. She hadn’t received effective anti-seizure medication in over two years. Seeing her finally receive appropriate care and a clear follow-up plan was a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

Chess Mind Matters Program, a transformative initiative that uses chess as a tool for cognitive development- Chess Mind Matters, is a collaboration with Elichess Club, one of Ghana's most vibrant chess organizations, and led by Philip Ameku, a certified FIDE Instructor, FIDE Arbiter, and President of the Ghana Chess Association and with Daro Mott, President of the Kentucky Chess Association and President of the Launch Louisville Chess Club and a certified, tournament director for the United States Chess Federation.
